I am looking for advice on the proper Timeout Timer setting for a mixed-mode VHF Quantar. I have the Timeout Timer currently set for 3 minutes, the Squelch Tail set for 1 second, and even though users are letting the carrier fully drop, we seem to get caught by some implementation of the Timeout Timer for a period that seems much less than the 3 minute setting. Is there another optimum setting I should try to use for the Squelch Tail (should I try a 0.5 second time?), or is there another setting I missed? Timeout seems to bite us in either analog or digital modes.
Thanks very much for any suggestions!
Steve

Re: Quantar Timeout Timer Help Please?
What is governing the rcvr activate and rcvr hold - carrier AND pl, or carrier OR pl, or just carrier? If rcvr hold is just carrier, there may be intermittent carriers present keeping the rcvr hold qualified.

Thanks very much for the reply and great suggestion! I will check this setting next time I get to the repeater site. I was curious though, that if the users really let the repeater drop between conversations, wouldn't this assure us that the receiver hold is also now not qualified and the timer should reset?Bill_G wrote:What is governing the rcvr activate and rcvr hold - carrier AND pl, or carrier OR pl, or just carrier? Thanks again!

You would think so, but if one of the rcvr settings is set for csq, and there is something present at the input - even if it's noise or intermod - the tot would still be running.
