APX TMS (Text Messaging Service)

Post by willbird287 »

Hey guys,

Been playing with an APX7000 lately, and have run into a strange issue.

In the past, I've been able to send text messages from XTS2500 to XTS2500 when set to mixed mode on an analog only repeater personality. The radio's are set to a direct data mode and bypass the repeater and transmit data packets on the output frequency. Works great.

Recently, I've tried to duplicate this with the APX7000. For some crazy reason, it's not working. I can use the same direct data mode to send text messages between the 2500 and 7000 on a simplex personality no problem. But if I try to send a text message on the repeater personality, it is unsuccessful regardless of which radio sends the message. Both radios (depending on which is sending the message) send a burst on the output frequency, but then the other radio never responds...

What's puzzling is if I FPP the exact repeated channel that's having problems to a simplex frequency pair, TMS will work perfectly fine. Any ideas? I would think if there was some nuance/burried setting in the APX CPS related to packet data service and TMS that I'm overlooking TMS wouldn't work simplex, but it does...

(All radios are flashed for packet data, and have latest firmwares/codeplug versions/CPS, etc.)

For people who might be reading this. I've since updated firmware on all radios after the latest release of APX R05 and ASTRO25 R15 and they are playing nice together.
