Does anyone know if such a cable exists? I've searched the web, and it appears NO. But batboarders always know best.
Moto has made it quite difficult for people with new laptops to program ASTRO Spectra Plus radios, given new laptops do not have serial ports. I've tried my IOGEAR USB->RS232 adapter (recommended by Motorola) and it simply will not communicate with the radio under Windows 7/64-bit, using ASTRO25 Mobile R14.01.00. I've also set the compatibility flag to WinXP SP3 and "run as administrator". Also played with all the buffer settings under Device Manager. No go.
Thanks to anyone who can provide an AS+ USB cable part number.

Re: USB cable for ASTRO Spectra Plus
As far as I know, no USB Moto cable exists for Astro Spectra Plus. The HKN6155 is a serial cable. I used that to talk to a Consolette (W7 head XTL5K) using a IO-Gear USB/Serial converter and I know others have programmed A/S Plus mobiles (lo-mid power dash mounts)fine with the same setup. I don't have a clue on remote or high power units if that would work or not, never had one to work on. My programming works fine under XP Pro with CPS 14.xx. I think the problem might be in the Win 7 64 bit thing. There was a fairly involved discussion about this a couple months ago, might try a search on Windows 7 or 64 bit and see what hits.w4jb wrote:Does anyone know if such a cable exists? Re: USB cable for ASTRO Spectra Plus
Thanks Dave. I feel the problem is most likely Windows 7 64-bit. It's too bad Moto doesn't support Win 7 yet. It's kind of been a while...
Now to find a copy of WinXP... I don't actually use any 64-bit apps, so this isn't critical/essential by any means.

Re: USB cable for ASTRO Spectra Plus
you pretty much have to think back to the time when that radio was made, the computer and os you will need for that radio will be from the same time. don't always get rid of your old computer, it's still good for programming
