I'm new to the Batboard so I apoligize in advance if this question has allready been asked a million times.I have a Saber II (136-174 mhz H43QXJ7139CN 25/30khz) and was wondering if it would take 2m freqs? I was told on another forum that their is no Saber with that band split (I rechecked the numbers 3 or 4 times and that's what I get). If it's " a go" would any Motorola shop do the programming?

The answer is "it might work and it might not." I was running through the VHF bandsplit permutations of Sabers a couple of days ago and recall that I did not find a 136-174 split listed for the model I was attempting to set up. However, there's a trick available that is supposed to work in cases such as this. What they do is to program the radio as an H33 (low power) instead of the H43 (high power, which it now is) and that opens up the radio. You can read about this on the http://www.batlabs.com site in the Model Specific section under Saber I II III. The radio stays a high power unit but the bandsplit opens up.
You probably already know that on your QXK you'll need either an encryption module or a bypass module to make the radio work, regardless of whether or not you set up encryption. Again, more details are on the site listed above.

I have a new to me System Saber surplussed from Long Beach Fire, that only programs down to 147 mHz and am looking for the fix.

Sorry, but I have no experience with System Sabers at all, so I don't know if the H43/H33 trick will work with one of them.

You can get 4 VHF ranges in a Saber or a Systems Saber. Remember that the modules are identical between both series.

Here's the deal: if you have a regular Saber of either VHF mid-range flavor you can band-split hack the RSS to get the full 2-meter range. Check out Scott, KB0NLY's article on Repeater Builder.
If you have a System Saber you need Lab RSS which will let you program down past 150. Here's the caveat: it doesn't recognize CON 7.0 firmware so if you have a later-revision radio you're screwed. There is no known band-split hack for System Saber RSS and the regular Saber RSS hack doesn't work on it.
