HT1250 Wont power on

I acquired an HT1250 with a broken display. Worked otherwise, just the display was bad.

I purchased a display off of eBay, came in an OEM box and has OEM markings on it.


I disassembled the radio according to the Basic Service Manual, replaced the screen, and re-assebled the radio.

Now it will not power on. It does nothing. LED doesnt light up, no sounds made, nothing... I have checked the flexes, and they all seem to be seated properly. I used an ohm-meter and checked the flexes and they seem to be connected end to end. There was no tension or stress on the flexes while the radio was disassembled.

Any ideas as to how to fix the radio?

Either the FLEX cable was inserted improperly(not straight), or you have a defective On/Volume control pot.

Last resort at present, would be that you took out the fuse.

Where is the fuse located?

Remove front cover, disassemble mainboard from the chassis. It's on the back, near the battery contacts. Location will vary slightly depending on the band but it should be readily visible, small fuse, ohm it out, check if it's blown.

Its a VHF radio...

Okay... 98% sure the fuse is blown... (my own stupid fault... not gonna go into embarrassing details)...


Anybody know where to get a replacement?

I'm half tempted to just take it to the local moto shop and see what they would charge to replace it. (I'm not trusting my SMT soldering skills on a radio like this...)

Generically it's called a picofuse, and you'll have to know the current rating before you buy one.
They can be found by mail via a websearch or at an electrical supply house. Someone should
jump in and tell you the rating of the one you need.

Ok new to this forum and new to servicing radios so I'll gladly take the newbie status with grace...

that being said I'm having the same issue described above but having apparently more trouble locating this fuse. I have the radio disassembled and busted off what I think is a capacitor in the process... (don't ask). Can anyone provide a picture of this fuse and its location so I can find it. Also is it soldered to the board or is it like most other fuses where it can be pulled out and replaced?

I don't have one open in front of me, but the fuse is about the size of the head of a pin, and should be near the B+ side of the battery connector. No, it isn't plug and play, it will need a pair of solder tweezers or small skillful work with a vacuum pickup tool to remove/replace.
