Sel Call vs Call Alert

Post by The Comish »

I have not had any luck searching the forum and would like to know the difference between Select Call and Call Alert. Which one is best to use to receive a page on the radio? 8)

Call Alert is best used for radio paging. Select Call is a "private call" of sorts, assuming all radios are programmed correctly only the unit being Select Called unmutes.

I know that the CDM and Pro series HT's - Sel call beeps once at the called radio (or group of radios) Call Alert is a persistent beep at the called radio. Both will show "Call Received" and the ID of the caller on the display.

Can you give us an idea what your "ideal setup" would be? Perhaps we could make recommendations based on that...

In a nutshell, Call Alerts will persist until you manually acknowledge them whereas Selective Calls will automatically clear in a time interval you specify.
