MTS2000 UHF antenna - yellow color code???
I have a "real" Motorola UHF whip which has a YELLOW color code. I was expecting a UHF whip to be RED or GREY
The YELLOW color code antenna is 6 1/4 inches long with the usual "ball" at the end.
The RED/GREY UHF antennas are about 5 1/4 inches.
I searched the archives/internet and can only find mention of VHF antennas with the YELLOW color code.
Maybe the YELLOW UHF antenna is new - say for 380-470 MHz OR maybe its a 350-380MHz antenna??
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: MTS2000 UHF antenna - yellow color code???
Thanks - a very useful list be no yellow UHF antenna.
As I said, maybe its for an unusual band segment such as 350-380MHz?

Re: MTS2000 UHF antenna - yellow color code???
You may be correct, as that color coding doesn't have a listing in my literature doesn't mean it's invalid.
It may just be an oddball for Milcomms.
Military use of the 300 mHz band is well known, so you could very well have an antenna for that band in your posession.
Fact is stranger than fiction...Afterall, we have Obama as president, do we not?

My Canon camera is on loan to somebody!!!
But the yellow UHF antenna is identical to the red UHF antenna but about 1 inch longer
The wording on the side of the antenna is identical - "M" logo "Motorola" name BUT the yellow antenna does NOT have "UHF" after the "Motorola" name.

Just I can't recall any UHF whip with ball at the end and with color coding.g8tzl2004 wrote:But the yellow UHF antenna is identical to the red UHF antenna but about 1 inch longer

Well known JEDI/XTS antenna P/N 8505241U05 intended for 403-520 MHz and has no color coding (white SMA insulator and no color marks at all).

IIRC some of the early Euro TETRA radios used SMA antennas (they also looked like the kinky love children of an XTS3000 and an iDen phone) and they operate continent-wide in the 380-396 band over there so you may have an antenna off one of those.

I own similar antenna from MTH700. I will check it for any kind of color coding.motorola_otaku wrote:IIRC some of the early Euro TETRA radios used SMA antennas (they also looked like the kinky love children of an XTS3000 and an iDen phone) and they operate continent-wide in the 380-396 band over there so you may have an antenna off one of those.

I got a yellow coded UHF whip FAE5520A aka 8505241U09 380-400 MHz here that came with a ex-police MT6000E from the UK.
Might that be the source of your antenna, too?

Re: MTS2000 UHF antenna - yellow color code???
I have a yellow UHF antenna as well. It is the same as the original poster, has Motorola on it, but does NOT say UHF like some of the others. It is about an inch longer than the other UHF antennas that I have. I was told this is a "wideband" UHF whip when I bought it. It was on my XTS3000, came from a board member who is quite proficient in radios, so I trust that he was correct. It works great on both amateur band and commercial band. Just my $0.02
