If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

Re: XTS5000
Is there any special trick to removing the old knob, or does it just slide off like a Jedi knob? GARY N4KVE

Re: XTS5000
XTS knobs are built like a MCS2000 volume knob with an outer rubber knob and a plastic insert. The rubber part (which is what the OP is ordering) comes off pretty easily. The plastic insert is a whole other matter entirely. See also: Batdude's XTS disassembly article

Re: XTS5000
Changing knobs on an XTS is very similar to changing knobs on the old Sabers: It's either a cinch or a b***h, and I've never encountered an in-between. If you can manage it, and you have steady hands, a small screwdriver with a sharpened edge often helps, but you have to go very slowly and be very careful. Getting the FDNY knob on to the radio can sometimes be the hardest part, and I usually end pushing the knob on the last eighth of an inch or so by holding the radio and pushing the top of the knob against
the side of the desk.
the side of the desk.
