MCS2000 Firmware upgrading

Post by MP 6.7 »

What are the requirements for doing a firmware upgrade on an MCS2000, and where does one procure the upgrade? I have an older one that has 5.58 firmware and would like to get it current. The other one I have is running 7.70. What's the current/final firmware version for the MCS2000?

You'll need a SRIB, a belly/accy plug service/program/flash cable, and a firmware refresh kit from Motorola, which can be procured through any generally compitent MSS, for $75 at list. The latest firmware for a MCS2000 is R07.73. R07.70 and above enables rebanding on 800mHz.

Unless you have a very compelling reason to upgrade (such as it's an 800mHz radio), I'd probably let it be.

Point of caution, you won't be able to flash the radio with the "flash" cable posted on the batlabs main site, that's not a flash cable-- just a regular program cable incapable of putting the radio in bootstrap mode.

To educate us, is it possible to build one or use the flash dongle?

Yes, IIRC it's the same as the MPT2100 cable or something like that. Andreas posted a diagram but I can't seem to find it. From another post: http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.p ... 20#p129420

You're right, for flashing the GM1200, you can't use the mic plug; you have to use the service plug.
Here is a small description of the Pins of the service plug (no guarantee it is correct!):
-4: GND
-5: BUSY*
-6: BUS+
-9: Connected to Pin 10
-10: Connected to Pin 9
-14: SWB+
-18: BUS-
-19: I don't know exactly what this Pin is; however, it is connected to a modified circuit of the UniRIB
-20: Same as above
-21: Same as above

Pin 4 and Pin 14 are connected with a 2,2k resistor.

Ro
