Strange Motorola MX-thread antenna

Post by NSPD »

My friend showed up to a meeting tonight with this Motorola antenna. It is approximately 9" long and has an MX connector.

Anyone have any idea what band it is and what radio it was distributed with? I've never seen one...

Scanner antenna ? Had one fall apart many years ago, was basically a VHF helical that they ran a wire thru the center for UHF. This looks like the same concept but the UHF wire wrapped around the outside.

He said it was in a plastic Motorola sleeve.

I'm thinking some kind of low band antenna. It is the same tapered style as the early HT1250 antennas, just with the spiral.

It wasn't hooked up to anything, it was a new antenna in a plastic Motorola sleeve.

Shot in the dark here, but the plastic sleeve had no markings other than motorola? Did you take a pic of that too?

Nope, no markings other than Motorola. No part number either.

Oh well. It does look a lot like this, Image which has an SMA style base.

I'm tellin ya that's a car antenna, be it for VHF or UHF or whatever... It doesn't go on a portable. Is it flexible or rigid?

Looks like resqguy911 hit the nail on the head with that one.

A car antenna would be my guess as well.
