Rib to cable adaptger

Post by nylawman »

I need to make a programing change in my Astro Spectra W3. I have a Motorola rib box, a Polaris Spectra/Astro Spectra trunk mount/hi power cable and the cable that goes from the laptop serial port to the rib box. What i am apparently missing is the adapter that goes between the cable and the smaller serial port. Can anyone identify the adapter by name and suggest where I might obtain one (preferably a local electronics/computer supply store)?

Do you mean a DB25 male (rib cable) to DB9 female (laptop serial port) adapter?

If you have a RLN4008 then you need a 15 pin connector for the rib. You would be best to build one, I assume that your computer has a 9 pin RS232 port. I have not seen an off the shelf modem cable going from a 9 pin (PC) to a 15 pin (RIB). The below link will show you how to build one.

Polaris sells exactly what you want on their 4th page of cables. Radio Shack sells them too & that's what I use, but I will get the Polaris one soon as it's only 1 foot long. GARY N4KVE
