StationMaster Repair

Post by joes243 »

I know this is not a Motorola item, but it is connected to a motorola radio. We have a brand new StationMaster antenna with a female N connector. Someone screwed a pl259 connector into the N connector and broke the inside connection of the N connector. Does anyone know if this can be repaired? Our dealer said it can not.

Thanks for any help!

There are not that many people who would have had access to that antenna to do that damage. I would put the finger back on the people who where working with the antenna and make them repair it.

There have been many designs of that style antenna over the years. Best you could do at this point is to contact the company that made the antenna and ask them the question. You said that it was a new antenna, so there should be a tag with the company, antenna model and serial number information. Get the info and call them.

I would contact the manufacturer directly and see what they can do for you. If you effect a field repair, make sure to sweep the antenna with a competent antenna analyzer post-repair to ensure there aren't any issues - especially if you're using this in a life safety application.

I would also find the ignorant individual that screwed a PL259 into your N connector, and summarily flog him with a piece of 1/2" Superflex. Then make him and/or his employer pay for a new antenna!

If this is a new antenna, and never installed, return it as 'defective on receipt' and ship it back at their cost.
Damage like this is unacceptable and should be covered as a new warranty replaced item.

Screwing on a PL259 to an 'N' connector can be repaired, but the fingers on the 'N' connecctor may snap off as they are usually beryillium or phosphor bronze, and will not take much mechanical abuse at all before failure.

Absolutely stupid thing to do.

Kick it back as D.O.A

Sorry - I think that's absolutely the wrong thing to do. It sounds like some idiot at the site caused the connector damage. The manufacturer, vendor, or shipper shouldn't have to eat an antenna that was actually delivered intact but was damaged on-site.

They have a nasty little term for that - fraud.

Well, if the antenna was damaged on site, then no, it can't be returned as defective.
Charge the idiot that fubar'd the connector, and give the fool a week off without pay on top of it.

Thanks for your responses. The damage was done by an honest mistake and I have NO intention of claiming the antenna was DOA. I have a call into the manufacturer to see if there is anything they can do.
