Okay, CDM1250 VHF programmed with 64 channels ("personalities") in one zone. All are set to scan list "SCAN-1". User programmable scan is enabled.
Here's the deal... I can go into the menu, go to the lists, and pull up the scan list. I can add/delete channels without a problem. I can not get the radio to scan these channels. I can not figure out how to tell it "start scanning"!
"System scan", either selected from a programmed conventional button, or from the menu list, causes the radio to emit a steady tone and show "UNPROGRAMMED" on the display. This doesn't go away until I rewrite the CPS to the radio. So I've moved that button's function to do nothing, and taken "system scan" off the menu list as an option.
I do not have a "scan button" on the front of the radio (the little Z-looking button) and there is no option for any of the conventional buttons that has anything to do with scanning other than "system scan"... which I already pointed out causes bad, bad things to happen. I'm using a regular microphone, not the DTMF mic.
What am I missing? (other than the ridiculously easy user-programmable scan I loved on the Spectra...)
Thanks

Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
You said that you've set the scanlist option in all the personalities to scanlist 1. If you navigate down the menu tree in the CPS, you will find that you must populate the scanlists with the personality names/numbers. These scanlists accept a maximum of 16 personalities per scanlist. So you will need to use 4 scanlists - you can't scan all 64 personalities at once. Then program one of the front buttons for scan on/scan off on a short press. Once you've assigned 16 of your personalities to each of 4 scanlists, then go back to each individual personality and tell each which scanlist you want it to use.
Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
You also need to assign a button on the control panel to scan. Press button to start scan, press again to stop.
Unless you set it to scan off hook, you need to ground the rear hangup clip of the mic to get it to go into scan. When you take the mic off the grounded clip, it will stop. Hang the mic up again and it should go back to scanning.
You might want to also contact Mike Christie from the S.O. there and see if he can help. He is the radio contact for the S.O. where you are.

Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
Al and Jim,
Al - I don't really want 4 different scan lists. I just need one that I can add/delete from as needed. I know that /\/\ hasn't had a radio with more than 16 channels in a scan list pretty much ever, with few exceptions... oh well.
Jim - The problem is, I can't program a button for any kind of scan other than "Toggle System Scan On/Off". Which causes the display to show "UNPROGRAMMED" and the radio beeps constantly. What other kind of scan is there, and how do I make the CPS allow me to program a button to do that? Also, I work in the same office as Mike and will be getting up with him later this week. We usually have lunch or dinner together about once a month
On a side note, I noticed you're in N.O., did you meet Mike during Katrina or know him from elsewhere? PM me...
So I guess to narrow the question down - what other kind of scan is there BESIDES "system scan", and how do I enable it?
Thanks

Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
you have to assign one of the front panel buttons to enable or toggle the scan on or off, real simple

Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
Everyone here has already hit on my advice but you need to go back and read what Al was trying to say to you. In order to scan you need to have at least one member in the scanlist. If you have an unprogrammed scan list you will get the message unprogrammed when you try to initiate scan. Either add a member using your method of user programmable scan, or go into the software and add members there.

Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
Okay, just to humor everybody, I've set all 64 channels to 4 different scan lists. I've followed the suggestions here to a tee.
Still, when I try to turn on the scan, it says "UNPROGRAMMED". The only scan option that I can assign to a front panel key is "toggle system scan on/off" -- is "system scan" what I want and there is some other kind of problem, or is there a different kind of scan I'm looking for?
Something makes me think that "system scan" is not the same as what I want, and for the life of me I can't figure out what it is that I am looking for. Nor are there any other "scan" options other than "system scan".

Re: CDM1250 scanning issue
system scan is exactly what you are looking for. and you do have at least one or two modes in your scan list don't you? if not you do need to ad some, you can edit them later
