Motorola unkown part help....

Post by smk8er »

Ok i have in my hands a part that is about 10 inches long 5 inches wide and an inch think has a cat5 port on the one side and on the end it has a mini uhf adapter and also a 25 pin port on it the model number is 19003NAMBA I tried to google it with no results and i would like to find out what it is so i can sell it. The cable that came with it appears it might be for a vehicle locator setup. I am not sure but if anyone could help me out that would be great... If my digital was working i would post a picture of it but sorry at the moment i cannot... Any help would be great.....

Sounds to me like a cellular telephone RF deck. The 25 pin connector would be where the vehicle harness to the handset plugs in, along with an external speaker, microphone, horn ring interface, power, etc.

The Mini-UHF is obviously where the RF I/O is.

As for the RJ45, these boards were housed in small metal boxes that could be placed into a carrying case. The carrying case also held an older camcorder-style battery that interfaced to the box via the DB25 connector. The handset could then be directly plugged into the RJ45 connector making a transportable cellular telephone, AKA bagphone.

From your description, I'm 99.9995% sure that's what you've got... And that's five nines of reliability :)

I concur with d119. I've got an analog bag phone here that has a slightly different number series but still ends in "NAMBA", and your description of the item fits the RF deck portion, especially if the two long sides are rounded and there are parallel relief indentions in the curved surfaces where the case screws are located along the sides. Also, the RF connector may be a TNC female instead of a mini uhf. These were also used as remote hide-away mobile mounts in a lot of cases, and the only real differences in those and the bag phones were the interace and mounting accessories.
curmudgeon.....and I like it.

I just purchased a 1995 SAAB and found one of these things under the backseat connected to a lot of wires. I detached it, but was wondering if it could have been connected to anything important. Why would it be under a backseat? Same model number, with and FCCID number, and the bar code one the top says sun1800AA.
Thanks!

Those are the older analog AMPS type cellular phones. Just about all the system carriers around the country have shut down the old AMPS systems and gone to the digital operations. You have a door stop.

Do not try to remove the glass mount antenna on the vehicle with any type of prying motion. You will crack or shatter the glass. You can use a razor knife and try to slowly cut the adhesive off the window. Work all around the edges as you try to remove the antenna. Sometimes a solvent like WD40 can help with the process. Just keep it off the paint.

Forgot to say that the cable with the RJ45 connector on it makes a real good cable to use to make a programming cable with that will fit a number of the mobile radios like the GM300, Maxtrax, CDM and others. Just add the DB25 connector to the other end on the flat cable so it will mate with the RIB.

I generally make the cable about 6 feet long.

That is one place the installers hid them. Less work to put the RF deck there than get into the trunk.

Another good way to remove those antennas is with a piece of fishing line.
