Hey everyone,
I've been a long time lurker, but I haven't been able to find the right answer to this question. I'm assuming it has to do with the alignment and tuning.
I have two MTS2000's one VHF and one UHF. My VHF radio works perfectly fine, and does not do what my UHF does:
My MTS2000 is an R split, Model 2. Whenever I bring it next to an electronic item (computers, scanners, etc) it will break squelch and blare static (white noise). It will also do this randomly when it is on in the car and on my hip as I walk around the house or town. It will only break squelch if it is on a channel that does not have a receive PL, however the light on top will be actively flashing red every second, so its breaking squelch but because I have a PL enabled, the speaker doesn't open. When it is on a channel as CSQ, it'll stay quiet until it picks up interference from something.
I have no experience with using the tuning program that came with CPS 2.03 for the MTS, but I have opened up the radio and looked at the settings on that program. My questions are:
1) Is this a simple fix to turn the squelch of the radio up, so its less sensitive, but just right?
2) If yes to the first question, how do I go about doing that?
MTS2000 UHF "R" squelch too sensitive

Re: MTS2000 UHF "R" squelch too sensitive
First off, I've found UHF radios of all makes/models to generally be more susceptible to opening up around computers, etc. The easiest thing to try first is read the radio with the regular CPS and go into each conventional personality, 'RX Options' tab. There is a setting called 'squelch fine tune' which defaults to the most sensitive setting of zero. Try setting it to a higher number, up to a maximum of seven. I suspect this will fix your issues. If not, it's a simple matter of using the tuner software to tighten the squelch...I believe there are separate adjustments in the tuner for both 25KHz and 12.5KHz bandwidth settings.
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Yes, for 25, 20 and 12.5 kHz channel spacing.wavetar wrote: tuner software to tighten the squelch...I believe there are separate adjustments in the tuner for both 25KHz and 12.5KHz bandwidth settings.
I would use the 'squelch fine tune' Squelch Adder on the individual Mode ( channel) first.
Re: MTS2000 UHF "R" squelch too sensitive
the squelch fine tune setting has seemed to help out a lot. I monkeyed around with it, and have set it at 5. It's no where near as sensitive as it was, but it will still open up just like you said, which is fine for short periods of time. I will still have to take it all over again to see if it will no longer do that when I'm in the car however. Thank you for your help!

You also can try to increase Unmute Rx Dalay to 100-300 ms.
I am biggest fan of XTS2500 and ASTRO Digital Saber.
