OLD serial numbers question

Reach back in time; I've been tasked with removing some Motrac & Micor era base stations; but they are pre-1976; so the decoder on the site doesn't go for these.

The serial numbers are LLDDDD, Letter-Letter-Digit-Digit-Digit-Digit. If I remember right, the two letters are similar to the first two letters 'current' system of DDDLLLDDDD, but beyond that, I don't know. Anyone got a clue?

The two I have are:

KA4200, and SA0730.

I think your looking at the wrong set of numbers. I would expect you to find a letter like B, D, T, L or something like that for a start. Then two numbers like 41, 43, 44 for low power 51, 53, 54 for med power and 71, 73, 74 for the high power. You will even find some 91, 93, 94 numbers for the really high power output bases. There were a few other numbers, but those should be the common ones. After the first 3 digits, you would find a variety of numbers and letters to indicate all sorts of model information. There are plenty of places with the information on the model number breakdown on the older radios. Try doing a search.

Yes, JeffFireRadio has the right idea; I'm looking for SERIAL numbers, not model numbers. Model number charts I can find all day, everyday, even when my Google-fu is weak.

It might have been Repeater-Builder that had the short article on the serial number dating for the 1970's numbers.

I usually just look for the rubber date stamp on the chassis wall somewhere, because I can never find the print-out of that article or the web page itself when I need it.
