VHF Spectra w/A5, program to A7 head?

Post by war bird radio »

Greetings,
this is my first post.

I have a trunk mount VHF Spectra, the model # says it uses the A5 head.
Can I just reprogram it with a model # for an A7 head or do I need to bit bang the model #?

Thanks,
John

Welcome John,

You can use a A7 head on a A5 Spectra. The number keys would not function.

The preferred way is to bit bang the control head bit using Spectra Lab.

Thanks Will,
I hoped it could be done my just reprogramming with an A7 model #.
As it is, I attached the head to the tray converitng into a dash mount and I noticed all the keys work as if it was an A5 head.
Will have to check to see if our shop has the lab software.

If they do not have it or do not know how to do it (most likely) let me know, I can do it for you.
