XTS2500 Menu - Scan Option?

Hi all,

I'm trying to configure scan toggle options for my XTS2500. I have one of the side buttons programmed to toggle the scan mode on/off, but I cannot program the feature into the menu display - "scan" is not in the drop down list of items that I can add to the menu display. Am I doing something wrong?

You can only have one scan key, or menu option. You will need to delete the side button to enable the menu.

I have another question related to scanning. Since a conventional personality is a "template", what is the best way to set up scan lists? For example, if I want to have 10 different scan lists, should I set up a separate conventional personality that corresponds to each scan list? That would appear to be the approach since you have to desigaate a particular scanlist in each conventional personality.

You have to create a personality for the features you want a particular channel or channels to have. This includes a scan list. You have to create the scan list before you can assign it to a personality, you have to create the personality before you can assign it to any channels, and you have to create the channels before you can populate your scan lists. So, if you want channel 1 to scan channels 1, 12, 13, & 14, and channel 2 to scan channels 2, 3, 4, & 5, and channel 3 to scan channels 1, 2, & 16, then here's what you do:

Scan list 1 exists by default. Go into it and configure your scan options (priority, list programming features, etc). You can go ahead and create all your scan lists now, just make a note so you can refer to it later.

Now go into conventional personality 1 and configure it for all of the features you want - power level, analog/digital, signalling, scan list, etc.

Write down what this personality does, you'll need it later.

Next create a new conventional personality for whatever features you want and then assign a different scan list to it. Keep doing this until you have all ther personalities, features, and scan lists taken care of.

Once you are finished creating your personalities, now go to the zone channel assignments and start typing in your frequencies. Assign the personalities to the individual channels as you are wanting.

Lastly go back into the scan settings and populate your scan lists like you want them.

Best advice is to keep good notes and plan out your template before sitting down to program.

By golly I think I've got it now. Thanks to Jim n7maq and Robert ai4ui for the help. Astro25 programming is very different than MTS2000, MTX9250, and HT1250 programming, and I have to unlearn everything I've been doing for years. Thanks again.

Three versions of CPS - Professional, ASTRO, & ASTRO25. All came out around the same time frame and all are different. They are not intuitive at all...

Well, I've used them all, and I have to agree. But, if I had my pick of any of them, I would have to say that CPS Professional for the HT1250 is by far the most intuitive, easy to use, and most flexible for my needs.

Back to my original question on Astro25 scan lists, I have the radio programmed now so my problem is solved. I'm not quite sure that the software was worth the $265 that I paid to Motorola compared to other CPS versions, but then, I haven't been placed in charge of Motorola yet. Maybe someday...
