Which aftermarket RIB for MCS2000???

Post by Max-trac »

I am in the market for a spare RIB.
I also have trouble getting the CPS TUNER settings to "stick" on my 900 MCS2000.
(IE when you hit "program", half the time the radio just resets and you have to back out and re-read the radio)
Main Radio programming is fine, and I have both mic jack and Accy connector cables.
I am using a Polaris PA-1, Pentium laptop running Win 98 CPS ver R02.
What is the recommended aftermarket RIB for this radio? I understand they are picky with non-Moto RIBs.
Thanks! Keith WE6R

I have bricked a few MCS2000's with the Polaris RIB. I would not use an after market RIB on a MCS2000 at all.

I second that...
The MCS was one picky radio.
I would not recommend any aftermarket RIB with those.

As much as it pains me to recommend him, KAWAwhatever sells a RIB that is an electronic duplicate of a RLN4008, right down to the correct CA3140 data inverter IC and ICL7660 voltage inverter. The only difference is that the simple switching transistors and diodes are SMT, as is the 5v regulator.

I am pretty sure this is it: item #390295863234. Just make sure to crack it open and compare it with the RLN4008 schematic before you try to write to anything with it.

I just worked on one of those aftermarket Chinese ones and it has the same problems.

I did a bunch of mods but was not able to test on the MCS series radios. It did work on a MTS2000, and everything else I tried.

I do need someone to draw up a good roadmap, schematic, of these mods for others to have.

http://batlabs.com/images/rib_mod.jpg this is my mods 8 years or so ago, lots of changes since then.

I have used an aftermarket RIB that I bought from a group on ebay and have had no problem programming an MCS2000. Have a look at the ebay australian site and look for ?village via doing a MCS2000 search.

Good luck,

My Polaris PA-1 is fine for programming, but when I use the TUNER to align the radio, THAT is when I have problems. So I would like sucess stories with the Tuner specifically. (when tuning, the radio resets a lot and the settings don't "take" and I have to try again) Thanks!
