XTS5000 and XTS5000R how do you tell.
How do you know if an XTS5000 m3 is a XTS5000R or a XTS5000 not rugged model. What is the difference ? Its about 2 years old if that matters ? I am buying one from a friend of mine that has 2 the same band and he has sold me one. He is going to recase it before I get it.

The chassis on an R has a hex head screw hole on the back near the battery contacts.

If it is an "R", you'll loose your submersible rating after the housing change unless the radio gets vacuum tested again..

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..
CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Hummm, did not know that . Thank goodness I don't have to have the submersible feature,I think its already been done. I will look for the screw when I get it.

Does the "R" get a vacuum in the sense that there is no atmosphere inside, or does the
space get filled with a gas? I understand about the point on the chassis where the access
is gained but I'm unclear on exactly what is done.

It should be filled with an inert gas. It will ensure no flammable air like oxygen is present and should also keep moisture out because of the pressure differential. I imagine a vacuum inside would attract moisture instead of sending it away
Re: XTS5000 and XTS5000R how do you tell.
There isn't a constant operating vacuum in the radio.. If I remember it correctly, the testing process is along the lines of a vacuum pump is attached to the rear port of the chassis. A vacuum is drawn, and the gauge has to hold a certain draw of vacuum for a certain length of time without a drop. If it drops, then a pressure pump is connected to the rear chassis port, and the radio is pressurized to a certain pressure, and submerged in water in attempt to locate air bubbles being pushed out at the source of the main seal leak or anywhere else it would be leaking... I have the procedure in a .pdf somewhere, I'll have to track it down..
Also, here is a list of the test equipment needed for the above tests:
NLN9839 Vacuum Pump Kit Submersible radios only. Vacuum pump with gauge and
vacuum hose. Requires NTN9279 Adapter Kit.
NTN4265 Pressure Pump Kit Submersible radios only. Pressure pump with gauge and
pressure hose. Requires NTN9279 adapter Kit.
NTN9279 Vacuum Adapter with Submersible radios only. Connects the vacuum/pressure
Gasket Kit hose to the radio’s casting.

Good Day-
I know this is an old posting.
Did you ever find the PDF on the process of testing and pressurizing the R models?
Thanks for the help.
