Convert XTL2500 from rear mount to front mount?

Post by rfcomm1639 »

Have three new XTS2500's that are to be deployed as control stations and should have been ordered as front mount radios. Does anyone know what I need to make this happen? Looks like a new flex cable from the brick to the head and maybe a spacer (looks like a tight fit). Or am I missing the boat and maybe there's programming issues doing this? Thanks in advance from the newbie. DLF.

What radios do you own?: XTL5000, XTL2500, XTS5000

There is a conversion kit for just that and if I remember correctly it comes with a ribbon cable and a new shroud to make it a dash mount. I will check for a part number and post it as soon as I can find it.

Your on the right track. To convert a remote mount an XTL2500 remote mount to dash mount, you need a headbridge and an (part number ends in 92 I believe) flex for the radio to control head. I am not at work so I dont have the part numbers handy. As far as programming goes, the radio doesn't know anything about being a dash mount or remote mount.

I'm in the process of converting an XTL2500 from remote to dash mount. Do you need to do the CPS programming on the remote before switchin out to the dash mount or does it matter? I remember having to do this to an XTL5000 when I was switching from a W3 to W5 head.
