XTS 5000 RX Emergency Alarm/Display help

Post by MayanWarrior »

XTS 5000
Model 2
Flashcode: 500008-000482-8
(Enhanced ID Digital Display is on unit)
Model: H18KEF9PW6AN

The problem I am having is this one particular radio will not display the RX emergency alarm on screen with the unit ID or the initial emergency alarm. It will do a MDC chirp however no emergency sound at beginning of another radios emergency press or no ID. I have checked all boxes that apply to the RX Emergency display/alarm/sound. Nothing. I have gone as far as printing out another radios info and copying the information exact to the CPS for the radio. However I do not have any XTS 5000s anymore except this one. So the codeplug info I copied and put in manually come from a XTS 2500.

I am left to assume it is:
Not apable of the Alarm/EA display at all?
Not capable of decoding Emergency alarms/EA ID from radios such as HT1000, XTS 2500 (seems unlikely on this case?)
Being a AN model not capable?
Improper unmute settings somewhere?
MDC/other lists improperly missing something?

In conventional personality settings the unmute type is:
and unmute/or mute

The MDC unmute type is:
or

I am at total loss. I made sure everything was exact from the print out copy of the XTS 2500 after trying to troubleshoot it before hand.

Any one out there with thoughts, suggestions? It has blew my last day and half down lol.

Thanks
Bill

Here is more information on this particular radio. I been little by little troubleshooting when I have time. I am wanting to think its that one setting somewhere as it had same problem with the unmute for the PL. The person who first got it had little knowledge and monkeyed with the settings, as he used it for a basic scanner and ham. Two others locally I know tried to help out kinda but nothing as they also left messages on some other board they said with no reply result. It was bought from a guy getting into the ham business but due to a illness he felt money was more important, as I got at a really good price, and yes he was locally and I know it wasnt a bad radio as he does have family issues.

I sent the codeplug to some one but there ideas havent changed the current issue so its still on the trouble shooting, I dont know if Ill hear back from them. Id be willing to send the codeplug to some one who might help, or change things around to see if it has any result. It is the last settings issue on the radio to be worked out, other then that its fine and works great. I would be greatly appreciative if any one could help at all.

This is only what it gives me and same for service mode,
R06.01.00 Host
R06.00.00 Dsp
8meg Vocon
BRAVO122 Proc Ver
R01.09.07 Tuning

That host/dsp is very old. First step would be to get that upgraded and see if the issue remains.

Take a look at my Astro25 revision history post. It looks like R08.00.00 introduced "MDC Emergency Alarm Indication". Bumping up your firmware will probably fix your problem.

Stupidity creates job security!

If your radio has old firmware, programming it with the latest CPS will not add any new features unless you have the latest firmware to match..

CPS = Customer Programming Software, Not CPS Software.

Yup, I had wondered this. Well since its small issue I can work on it later and get the firmware update to it. How much it cost to get the firmware from M for this? Or does it take a trip to Mexirola now? Thanks for verifying my thoughts on it. Appreciate it much.

I have the Astro 25 R15.00.07 portable upgrade files. However I am unsure how to proceed. I hear terror tale stories of self upgrades. I know some times theres more false fear put out then good. Im sure I would need a flash cable/box or if its firmware what cable is needed? Is there a cable that does both? I have CPS R15 so after if I did the upgrade, would I still be able to use my CPS or have to upgrade that as well? I would prefer not to brick this puppy.

General rule is that the version of host that is in your radio is what cps version you should be using. After all the CPS is designed to work with functions supported by the host. This isn't required but this is how some people get hung up on options not working because they see it in the CPS but yet their host doesn't support it.

So if you have any version of 15 host to put in the radio you should use cps 15. To do a proper firmware refresh you need the host/dsp file, an OEM usb or serial programming cable, a computer with the CPS loaded on it and a firmware refresh key/ibutton. A firmware refresh "kit" usually costs 75 bucks from Motorola.

Yup. The reason none of us tried R07 which I believe had came with the radio was the previous owner had used R14. The original codeplug was not available and it would not read the radio with a anything under R14, giving the codeplug message to upgrade the CPS to a version that could read the codeplug. Just odd how the things it isnt capable of are faded out yet MDC alarm is there to option. It is a odd situation with messages and things that popped up using CPS prior to R15. The previous owner whom sold it didnt have much knowledge in Moto radios.

Really appreciate all your replies on it.
Thank you.
