Possiblity to convert an 800mhz MCS2000 to 33cm

Post by kadetklapp »

Hello gents,

I apologize in advance for my horrible "newb" issues. I humbly ask forgiveness ahead of time for these annoying questions and issues, but after searching the web high and low, I'm a bit stumped.

I have a Motorola MCS2000 800mhz model 3 I got used that is collecting dust. I started researching 33cm amateur, and became interested in modifying it for use up there. I got my tech ticket in December so I'm looking for some cheap thrills with this. It was my understanding in talking with some other hams, that the 800 MCS could be made to work in the 928 ham band. However, I'm getting a big negative from some guys on RadioReference. Before I toss this thing in the trash, I want to make sure it's not able to go out-of-band. Specs are as follows-

model M01JHX+834W

ID #- M01UJN6PW6BN

I've deciphered it down to a 35 watt 807 and up MHz radio. Is this one not usable for the 33cm band without major (and pointless) modification?

It won't work in the 900 ham band. But don't trash it. Sell it for cash, or trade it for a 900 mhz MCS2000. That's a great radio for 902/927. GARY N4KVE

It's one of those things that's theoretically possible, but not realistically possible.

+1 for sell & buy a 900 radio. The 800 MCS market is a seller's market.
