I am trying to program a VHF Astro Saber and keep getting this error.
"The target radio does not support frequencies with a 2.5khz spacing. Please upgrade this radios firmware."
I get this error even if I set all transmit frequency deviations to 5khz. I repeat I still get this error even with all transmit set to 5khz.
And then it errors out and will not let me program the radio.
Before I changed anything I checked the original programming. There are some channels with 2.5khz transmit deviation in the original.
I have never seen this error before. Any help appreciated.
Astro Saber Model # H04KDH9PW7AN
Firmware: 04.01.02.00
DSP: I06.03.00
Flash: 540001-000000-4
This flash does match the sticker on the radio.
I am using CPS version 5
Thanks
Dennis

The channel spacing, and channel deviation are two different things. The channel spacing is freq steps.
Your firmware and DSP are very old, and you probably have a 512K VOCON board. If you have a 512K VOCON then you will need to replace it with a 1Meg board to do what you want. If it is a 1 meg board then just refresh the f/w.

Re: Astro Saber does not support 2.5khz error
Hi thanks for the reply Jim. Yes but I don't even think that 2.5khz channel spacing is possible so what the heck is with this error?
Also this doesn't explain why the original progaming has 2.5khz deviation channels and they work. Now I can't program more 2.5khz channels or any channels for that matter without getting this error.
Has anyone else ever seen this error???
Thanks

Re: Astro Saber does not support 2.5khz error
I had a similar problem with a 512 Astro Saber. It would take narrowband [2.5khz] frequencies, but not all. If I put in, for example, 155.55 and made it 2.5, it would take, but if I tried one of the newer freqs being used today like 155.5075, it would not take it and show an error for the whole radio. By having the lastest firmware put in, it then worked fine on all narrowband freqs.
Re: Astro Saber does not support 2.5khz error
Jim already explained it. TX deviation of 2.5 has nothing to do with the radios abilitity to accept or not accept 2.5khz channel spacing. The astro saber is totally firmware dependent regarding 2.5khz channel spacing. If you guys are at all familiar with the Astro Spectra then you should know the early production models don't support 2.5khz channel spacing because of hardware and firmware issues. I believe the split in the Astro Spectra production was in a about 1997/98 when they made an RF board that would work with 2.5khz channel spacing and why the model tag say "2.5khz" on the side of it.
The astro saber and astro spectra has always been able to accept 2.5khz transmit deviation. The issue is with the channel spacing. Newer licensed freqs and interop freqs like some of the V-TAC channels will not go into an astro line radio unless the firmware and hardware (only Astro Spectra) support it.

Re: Astro Saber does not support 2.5khz error
Ok, Ok I agree with everything everyone is saying. But.... you are not listening to me.
I do not want any channels with 2.5khz deviation. I do not have any 2.5khz channels. I only want 5khz deviation standard 25khz spacing.
WHY AM I STILL GETTING THIS ERROR? I DO NOT HAVE ANY 2.5khz channels !!!!!!!!!
BELOW IS THE ERROR WORD FOR WORD
"The target radio does not support frequencies with a 2.5khz spacing. Please upgrade this radios firmware."
AFTER I GET THIS ERROR I CANNOT PROGRAM THE RADIO

check every personality, make sure you don't have one in there mistyped. I had this same thing happen and got the same error on an older MT2000 that didn't do narrowband.saberjerk wrote:Ok, Ok I agree with everything everyone is saying. But.... you are not listening to me.

Re: Astro Saber does not support 2.5khz error
Problem resolved, he had 2.5khz channel spacing VCall freq in his list. He was confused as to the difference between 2.5khz channel spacing and tx deviation.
