Ht1000, RIP PORT COMMUNICATION UNSUCCESSFUL
So I've never seen these ht1000 radios before and i am not very tech savvy, but i've been tasked to figure out how to program these radios. So far i have installed the ht1000 dos software, but it will not read the codeplug data. I'm using a RIB connector, using a power supply, and the red light goes on when i flip the switch so it can't be power issues there. I've checked the connectors they look in good condition, tried different radios, radio batteries are fully charged, tried many combinations of plugging in and powering up. Have it in com port 1. It says RIB port communication unsuccessful. Any suggestions? could be something completely stupid don't be afraid to insult my intelligence... like i said this is completely new stuff to me, and i'm not a tech, my job is kind of all around communications... make it work no matter what type deal.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

First question is, are you using 'real DOS' or trying to do this through a window or command prompt? Second question, does the computer in question have a real serial port, or are you trying to go through a USB-to-serial adaptor or similar? What are the specs on the computer you're using? Is your RIB an OEM original, or a 3rd party unit? Same question for the RIB-to-radio cable.

Re: Ht1000, RIP PORT COMMUNICATION UNSUCCESSFUL
i am using a cf-30, xp, just found out that won't work... now i'm trying to create a boot cd with windows 95 with magicISO, and burn it onto a cd-r, as well as the ht1000 folder that comes on the software. so new question, do you know of any user friendly imaging creators so i can make a boot disk that works? so far i've created 4, only one did anything and it just made pretty colours, before restarting the computer. Any help with this would be great. Thank you.
If you still need this information..
As far as connections go, i am using com port 1, a real serial port, so just radio to rib, rib to com1. no usb to serial adapter. the RIB is OEM original.
Specs: intel core duo CPU 1.66 GHz
1.99 GHz of RAM

okay i just found out the scripting on the computer i am trying to use (government controlled) won't allow for windows 95 to boot up. I should be able to just find another computer to use and it should be good. thanks for the help.

you need an older machine with something like 98 or ME on it that runs a fat32 drive and has real DOS. You can not run it on xp in a dos windo or any newer machines and get it to read correctly

Download DOS 6.22 via a Google search and use it outside of any version of Windows. It may work or it may not, because your clock speed of 1.66 is probably too fast to reliably run an older Motorola RSS. To reiterate, an RSS may appear to run under a 95/95/XP platform, which means it will often read the radio (which I realize you're not currently able to do) but it won't allow you to write to the radio.

Re: Ht1000, RIP PORT COMMUNICATION UNSUCCESSFUL
so i was able to create a windows 98 boot disk, with the program on the cd, on the cf-30... so far i have been able to read the codeplug data this way, good feeling.
i've read somewhere that i could make these radios a useless brick if i were to run it on something a little too fast... is 1.66GHz going to break the radios? so far it seems fine, but i'm scared to write to it. Thanks.

Re: Ht1000, RIP PORT COMMUNICATION UNSUCCESSFUL
As long as you're using the latest & greatest RSS version as defined in the Pentium Compatibility Matrix (link below), then you should be ok. Make sure it reads 4 or 5 times with no issues before trying a write. Make sure to save a copy of the codeplug before writing, in case it's needed to 'revive' the radio.

Same thing as has been pointed out about your posts on this subject countless other times.HLA wrote:ok i'll humor you, what was wrong with what i wrote?
A slow computer is NOT required for most DOS applications and as you can see from the OP of this thread his 1.66GHz dual core processor he was able to read/write his HT1000 once in a pure DOS environment.

Here's my experience on the issue.
The last-released versions of the following packages do NOT need an old 'n slow computer to run, just pure DOS and a real serial port:

still not right to encourage people that don't know any better, Hope you'll also step up and make it right when they use your advice and turn the radio into a doorstop. Same thing with everyone that swears they have the ultimate usb adapter that works miracles.
