Duplexer tuning question ?

Post by Max »

I contacted a local Moto dealer in my are to get a qoute on tuning a Celwave UHF 6 CAVITY DUPLEXER.
This is the reply i received back:
" They will tune the duplexer for you and you need to provide the frequency etc. You will have to leave it and it would be Max 250.00 as it is based on time and it can take about 2 – 3 hours.Bring it in if you wish to do it."

Does this sound a little high ?

Having worked for a 2 way shop in the past, I can tell you that is such a load of :o . 2-3 hours? Only if they have NO clue what they are doing. I charged 1 hour of bench time back then which was $60 AND I worked for a MSS.

2-3 hours is excessive. One hour charge would be reasonable for use of test equipment that costs +$20K. Barring problems, the actual work is around a half hour.

Thanks guys,i kinda thought that was bit much.I agree with the one hour flat rate and it should only take 30min or less with a "qualified" technician.
You can buy a UHF 6 cavity duplexer on eaby from China tuned to your specs for around $75
Guess i shop around my area for another quote.

If its a duplexer that YOU tried to tune, I might charge more, depending on what YOU (the customer's) expertise is. Nothing like taking on a job when someone tried to move a duplexer from 173 down to 146 without any thought of the coupling cables, or they tried to 'tweak' it themselves while power was applied....

I spoke with Sinclair recently about tuning a 4 cavity vhf duplexer and was quoted $200.
