Problem with Programming XTL 2500
I have R15.00.00 of Astro 25 Mobile CPS and cannot get it to read either of our fleets XTL's. Each time, I receive one of two error messages. The first is, "Open Radio Failed" and the second is, "Radio Failed to Acknowledge" or something along those lines.
Both radios have a host of R14.0something and a DSP of R14.00.00
I'm using a USB cable hooked up to a CF 29 computer. Both XTL's are remote mount units and were successfully read by CPS R15.00.00 on another laptop today.
Just wondering if anyone has any insight into what the problem may be, and if so, how do I go about fixing it.
I've also encountered the same problem with Portable CPS R12.00.00 on an XTS 2500. Same error messages. Is it the computer? The ports?

Since your using usb have you checked to make sure the driver is installing right and that the radio is showing up in the device manager as working (its under the modem section). Also which cable are you using and where are you hooking up to on the radio.

You might be seeing the same problem that many of us do when fighting with the GREAT Motorola software for the XTL radios. When I have any issues, I always do a reboot of the computer and start from scratch. The software and radio interface do not like to change between different family of radios like a PM1500 and an XTL.
I have also had to shut off the radio and power it back up on occasion to get it and the program computer to talk to each other.

Have you ensured that your cable selection is set to USB and not serial? That beat me up a couple of times when I first started programming my radios.....

I don't have the part number right in front of me, but I'll grab it right away. I'm attaching the cable to the port on the "guts" of the radio.KB9KST wrote:Since your using usb have you checked to make sure the driver is installing right and that the radio is showing up in the device manager as working (its under the modem section). I'll give that a try as well. Kinda did that, but not to the fullest extent you have.Jim202 wrote:You might be seeing the same problem that many of us do when fighting with the GREAT Motorola software for the XTL radios. Are you talking about when you go to "File" and then "Read a Device" and select either "USB" or "COMx"? I've set it to USB.MSS-Dave wrote:Have you ensured that your cable selection is set to USB and not serial? That beat me up a couple of times when I first started programming my radios.....

Is it a mid power or high power radio? If mid power you going in the front of the radio where the control head plugs into or the back of it?colby4601 wrote:I don't have the part number right in front of me, but I'll grab it right away. Its a mid power radio. I don't really understand the question though. I'm attaching the cable to the actual radio, not the control head.

Re: Problem with Programming XTL 2500
Are you plugging into the rear of the radio which would be the end with the antenna cable and power plug or the front of the radio which is where the control head cable plugs into.

This is what I am getting at if your using it in the front of the radio:
HKN6184
GCAI USB Program/ Flashport Cable
Programming Mid or High Power Radios through control head. Used for programming High Power Radios Only through the GCAI TIB connector on the transceiver.
If you have this cable you have to go through the control head for mid power radios.

I was using the cable on the front of the radio where the control head cables plug into.
I'll go out to the shop and check that part number right now.

Re: Problem with Programming XTL 2500
If it is a mid power radio that won't work, gotta go through the control head. When you plug the usb cable into the front of the drawer unit on mid power radio the control head will come up with "NO USB" in the display.

Jason is right on. Have to plug into the head with that cable.
What I meant is go to View:Options:Main and look at the bottom of the screen at the port selection to make sure it is set to USB and not serial. That's probably not the issue now if you were plugging the GCAI cable into the deck.
