Here's the deal.
I know what has to be done to upgrade from a W-4 to a W-7. It's the details that are throwing me off.
I have a UHF Astro Spectra on a W-4 Head that HAS To be upgraded to a w7, not a 5, not a 9, but a 7. I have virtually every piece of LAB Software moto has put out (I work for a municipality). It's not anh option to depot it, it's something I am doing on my own. I just need help on which software/version to use, and what to do from there. I don't want any part of rebanding or anything, A simple upgrade. I know a few counties over, they upgraded from w4 to w7 on about three separate installs with NO, I REPEAT, NO programming. I'm at a loss of knowledge anywhere past a conventional line or mototrbo. Astro, for some reason, has one over on me.
I would be greatly indebted to anyone who could offer some assistance to this endeavor, and would compensate if required. PM, reply, whatever works.
Thanks in advance

You need to locate mtsx lab software (it's DOS based) and an S record for a W7 that matches the band split and has the flash options you want. Note the tuning values in the radio prior to messing with it. Then back it up with the read with pack/no unpack option in mtsx lab. That will basically make a snapshot of the memory bit for bit. Then load the W7 S record into mtsx lab using the load S record option. Go back to the read with pack/ no unpack and write it. Go back with tuner and input the levels you noted earlier.
Profit....

Alright, What would be on the first screen of that software that would not I had the right one? All these are in compressed folders like "AstroLab1...2" and so on. The screen I am mentioning is the one that has the "Press any key to continue" and the version on it..
Would I use the tuning CPS to note those values? (I know, ignorant query, but I rather be safe than brick that investment..)
Any recommendations as far as the s-record? I am not particular on the flash code, as long as its uhf r2 and will ID and use a status dek.
Let me know...

Also, do I need to run it in TRUE DOS? Will the promt work?

You'll need true dos.
The bandsplit is only a suggestion.

Yes you can read the tuning values in RSS, DOS only, alignment or CPS Tuner and make a note of each one so they can be entered back into the radio when the new codeplug/srecord is loaded.

Specifically, you need MTSX LAB version 3.00.02 The older 2.00.01 will appear to work, until the Astro Spectra turns on with a 'fail 01/92' error in the display. The Astro LAB 3.04 will attempt to read the codeplug, but will give an 'unrecoverable block error' message & quit.
