Jedi MTS2000 - fake Chinese charger - M1171Q

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I have a Chinese fake Jedi charger called an M-1171Q

It looks identical to a Jedi fast pod charger (NTN1171A) but has 4 charging pins rather than 3 with an original.

There is very little info on the net other that the M-1171Q is a "fast charger".

Does anybody know the charging routine of the M-1171Q. There is a red/green LED where red = charging and green = complete

A flat battery seems to take 3-4 hours to charge but does NOT get hot. My original Moto charger takes about 45 minutes and the battery gets a bit hot. If I place a fully charged battery directly from an original Motorola charger into the fake charger, the battery will continue to be charge for around 90 minutes...but the battery still does NOT get hot...even though it was a fully charged "hot" battery directly from the original Moto charger.

Old batteries which are rejected by the original Moto fast charger (green LED after 10 secs) are accepted by the fake charger.

I'm thinking that the fake charger might be switching from fast to a slow trickle charge for a fixed period but still shows red ??

Any thoughts?

Be aware that the original [early 90's] NTN1171A factory charger did come with 4 pins. I have a couple of them. GARY N4KVE

Yup -

Dump the "fake" charger, and pick up a genuine OEM charger. Who knows what that fake charger will do to your batteries.

Agreed, so much of this Chinese junk is made to sell will little concern to actually work. The landfills are filling up with this stuff.

You would expect the Chinese charger to cook the battery - but its the reverse- stone cold!!!

The only good thing is that it will charge "old" Jedi batteries which get rejected by the original motorola charger, I guess due to high battery resistance. I guess the capacity will be low but OK for RXing.

I have several real chargers - the fake came with a couple of MTS2000's I bought.

Photos would be nice.

Referring to the GP68 charger thread: that charger circuit board pictured is NOT the timed rapid board. It is the slow charger board.

Check out Ebay item number 130514700286

"New Charger for Motorola NTN7144 HT1000 MTS2000 MTX8000" $21.95 +$9 shipping

This is the same identical charger. The listing also provided some charge timing data : 1100mAh 66 minutes , 1500mAh 90 minutes BUT my M-1171Q charger took 90 minutes to charge an already fully charged battery immedicately removed from a real Jedi pod charger!!
