This UHF 110 watt conventional MCS2000 will not accept a key. I have tried a couple of known-good encryption boards. Currently installed known-good board is HLN6576C, which is DES-XL. KVL is a T3011DX, known-good and tested. Using a brand-new Motorola TKN9152A KVL cable. Suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: MCS2000 will not keyload
David,
The MCS2000 encryption module required a separate mounting kit. If you look at the module it has a bubble switch on it that needs to be depressed and is the anti tamper switch. If it's not depressed it will lose key as soon as you load it. The mounting kit made sure that the switch was depressed when fitted properly. I am not sure if this is the problem with your setup but it took some time to figure out a couple of years ago. I hope this helps...

Re: MCS2000 will not keyload
Thank you. That is the problem. I had read something about this years ago, but could not accurately recall it to memory. I saw the bubble switch and tried holding it down while loading the key, and it appeared to work. But of course, as soon as I let go, it was gone. Thank you for refreshing my old memory! Now, what to do about it? I am adding encryption to a radio that did not have it, so I do not have the mounting kit. I doubt seriously I can get it at this late date. Can I just solder that switch closed?

David,
You should be able to solder it and it should work fine......
