NOS MTS2000 with no FLASHcode???

Post by EindhovenOne »

Hey, all. I have an offer to purchase a M3 MTS2000 800MHz radio that is new from old stock but the strange thing is that there is no FLASHcode listed on the back tag even though it clearly says it is an MTS2000 on the tag. Also, when I put it into service mode it gives no FLASHcode. Firmware is 5.35, model number in service matches tag as well as the S/N. I haven't read it with my RSS or CPS yet because I didn't have my gear with me. Is this at all normal; can someone advise? Thank you.

I *believe* that some of the very early units didn't have this information printed on them nor did they display the information in service mode. You may have to connect the radio to a PC and read it, and then look at the radio information display to determine what the feature set is.

Additionally, I would start with DOS RSS for the MTS 2000 rather than Windows CPS for a unit that is very old. I encountered some trouble reading and writing to early MTS 2000's with Windows CPS.

yep, that is an oldie MTS2000, that F/W puts it in 1993 vintage. according to the Motorola rebanding table, if the serial number is before June 1993, it is only a 256K controller and CANNOT be upgraded for rebanding.

You will also want to use DOS RSS on that one, as CPS only plays nice with F/W of 5.60 or greater IIRC.

Thanks for all the input everyone. The serial comes out to June '93 so hopefully it made the cut for rebanding. Now...my next question is since this makes the cutoff for not being toolproofed, what can I play with using Depot/Lab?
