Impres Mic Connections

Post by w0en »

I seem to be having a lot of "bad Mic" complaints on XPR6550 HTs using the 4040A speaker mics. Is this a real voltage on/off switch or does the HT mic send a code to the radio? Can there be contact issues that could be cleared up with a cleaner/treatment like DeOxit or Stabilant 22? Does the 4040A have a high failure rate?

Supposedly the contacts are gold plated and thus should not need any serious cleaner. I have had some complaints of low audio from the 4040 RSMs, Motorola's spec sheet says they have 1/2 watt speakers just like every other speaker they've made before, and looks like I will have to find a way to test the audio output to confirm or deny what the customers are saying

I think I had about a 10% indicated failure rate last year on a 350+ HT field, however the Mics are changed by the subscribers on open stock storeroom rather than trained service personell. My dealer has recommended the 4025, of course they are more $$$. I bought a half dozen last month, too soon to tell if they make any difference. Radios are circa 2008-2009 so they do have some time on them. I did have a complaint at a remote site that radios wouldn't talk to each other (simplex analog, no rpt there) had 5 HT's with 4 bad mics and I verified there it wasn't contact problems.
