I know its off topic..sort of.

I was in high school back in 1984 and we did a tour of the Schaumburg campus for an Electronics class. We were in one of the classrooms getting a little introduction of the company by one of their PR people before the tour. An older gentelman walked in and came up to the front of the room and introduced himself. He started off with "Hi, Im Bob Galvin. I am the CEO of Motorola and I am honored to have your class here today. I find it great that a young group students have the ambiton to be here today to see where an intrest in electronics can take you." He gave the history of how his father started the company and where it was headed. He seemed like a really down to earth guy who was liked by everyone who worked for him.

It also helped that one of the kids in the class parents worked for Motorola and had arranged the tour.

It's too bad that the new comers to the radio field never got the chance to meet this great man. He brought the Motorola company to become a well respected organization. Bob was warm and friendly to all that he met. He was always a pleasure to listen to and be around.

After he left the control of Motorola to others, there was a dramatic change in the way the company functioned. We are now seeing that in the way Motorola treats it's customers and potential new customers.

I don't think there will ever be another person that can walk in his foot steps. The passing of Bob Galvin is another sad event in the history of radio.
