I have a new-to-me XTS5000 M3 with ROS 15.0. I would like to enable the radio lock feature such that if I select LOGF on the menu screen, the radio will require a password the next time that it is turned on. I did this for my XTS3000 and it was a feature relating to the secure settings on the radio. I think that it is a general
Is there a default password that you enter the first time that the radio is power cycled or reset? I don't want to brick the radio - the password feature on the radio isn't accessible without having the lock feature enabled. I know that if I enable the lock feature in CPS, when I download to the radio, it will want a password when it resets after the download.
Thanks,
Pierre

Radio lock and boot up passwords are distinct concepts. Radio lock is usually tied to a switch (concentric or ABC) and disables the keypad and buttons and switches when enabled. No password is related to this feature. Needing a password for booting up the radio, you define the password in the CPS, write the codeplug, radio reboots after a successful write and you will be forced to enter the password to bring the radio alive. Otherwise it's a nice boatanchor.
As an aside, I have been told that 012345678 is the super secret password to get into any radio. But I can't get into my APX with that password, only the one I've defined. Alternatively I've also been told this password will wipe any crypto keys in the radio, but I don't run encryption so I can't tell you whether it does or not

Re: XTS 5000 Radio Lock - First Use
On the 3000s, there was a way to enable the power-up lock in the secure set-up. In the 5000s, that doesn't exist. There is a radio lock check-the-box function in the display and menu setup. I didn't see a place to put a password for that function.
I think that I enabled the function in secure set-up on the 3000, power cycled the radio, and entered the default password that you mentioned. One the radio was on, I selected PSWD in the menu, and changed it.
Did I miss the location for the power-up password, or do you have to login with the default, then change it?
Thanks,
Pierre

Re: XTS 5000 Radio Lock - First Use
Per the friendly MOL folks, 8 "*s" also works to unlock, but it will wipe all your keys. This will also reset the password to the factory default of "01234567". Try the factory default before the 8 asterixes unless you don't care about keys. This is in my XTS3000 manual. Haven't found it yet in the 5000 manual. Don't know why this isn't in the CPS destructions!
