Hello everybody!
I bought a Securenet ready (with the "X" in the serial number) Spectra and put a HLN6000B carrier and a TRN7036 DES-XL hybrid into it. The radio transmits and receives fine in FM, I can load a key into it I get a pass and if I transmit securenet it perfectly decodes on the Sabers I have. The problem is when I transmit on the Saber I basically get only noise on the spectra. You can sense a very low decoded audio but it is covered with a very loud white noise.
It is like the decoded audio is mixed with demodulator output.
Unfortunately I don't have "known good" parts to swap.
Any ideas what could be configured wrong or could be broken?
Thanks for help,
Roland

Re: Strange problem when adding Securenet to Spectra
try making sure you have securenet enabled in programming, if not you will get exactly what you are getting, the securenet board goes between the discriminator audio and the audio stages, if you don't have it enable you will get both audio paths into the audio amp.

Re: Strange problem when adding Securenet to Spectra
I would almost be inclined to say you have a deviation/modulation issue with the Saber. Does it TX secure fine to other radios?
Re: Strange problem when adding Securenet to Spectra
Thanks for the sugestions. I think I forgot to mention some facts.
deviation/modulation: I have a couple of Sabers which talk to each other secure just fine, they have NTN5835 hybrids and are set to XL in the RSS. I wanted to add a spectra as a base station to replace the SVA so this is the only other radio I have to test with. Deviation could be a issue but I don't know what the correct seting is and it would be difficult for me to measure. Is the Spectra more critical in deviation setting than the Saber?
programming: I enabled "internal Securenet" in the RSS and got the Securenet options for each mode. Key selection works and I get the beep when transmiting clear so I think I enabled it correct. I still might have missed an option I have to turn on or off.
I was hopeing that there is some standard hardware modification that I missed as I saw some jumpers and notes for capacitor values in the audio section of the comand board but nothing how they should be set.
I still might have a broken carrier board or radio but I don't have all circuit and pcb diagrams I would need to tell.

Re: Strange problem when adding Securenet to Spectra
If the Spectra did not have the Securenet module in it when it left the plant, there is a good chance that the Securenet deviation setting in the Service RSS menu was not set. Default is a zero setting.

Re: Strange problem when adding Securenet to Spectra
This is a shot in the dark, but if you programed the radio properly for Securent when you remove the carrier board you should get a flashing carrier light and no RX audio. If you still get RX audio then there is either a problem with the programming or the command board.
