XTS 3000 FAIL 001

Post by noid1037 »

Synopsis of the radio:
The RF board is VHF, the old VHF Controller board was not operating correctly. No information was displayed on the LCD, replaced the bad VHF Controller board with a 800 MHz SmartNet Trunked programmed controller board.
Is the code that is showing up on the LCD "FAIL 001" from the 800 MHz controller board or is this code from the VHF board or a combination of both?

I did save the CPS file of the old VHF controller card for future reference.

Thanks

Does the new controller board still have a 800MHz codeplug?

FAIL 001 means the VCO is out of lock. The 800MHz controller trying to tune the VHF RF board to 800MHz frequencies will do that...

Yes the controller board is still for the 800 MHz band. If I can remove the code plug would it work with the VHF rf board as long as all components are operational. I wondered if there were frequency dependent controller boards. Another question... The radio has an encryption board, if I remove it will the radio work correctly or will the code plug reject the lack of the board. I'm a neophyte to the motorola world and have hardware and code plug questions.... I'm reading and then other questions come up .... I have a lot of programming questions but want to master the hardware options.. Then move to programming and options in that arena. Thanks for the reply and knowledge.

Encryption board installed or removed, it doesn't matter.

And you need more than a codeplug. You need an S-record for the model & band radio you have. And the ability to load said S-record into the radio.

And when that's done, your radio needs a full alignment.

If you aren't familiar with how to do this, I'd highly suggest you solicit someone on the board here to take care of all of it for you.

When it comes to controllers in Motorola radios, the hardware is generally the same (with some exceptions), but the firmware (with regard to the S-record specifically, not the Host/DSP) is very different. They are band-specific but not, if you catch my drift.
