Getting more than 255 channels on an XTS5000 ?

Good day everyone !

Being fairly new to the XTS ASTRO25 radios, I have a simple question. As of now, I have the CPS set so that all zones (15 zones, 16 channels per zone) are set up for FPP. I DO realize that will limit my total personalities to 255, and not the full 1000. Now, my question is, how do I free up the radio to have say MORE THAN 255 personalities ? I tried to go in the "Zone Assignment" menu, and I tried to delete one FPP zone (say Zone 15, each Zone has 16 personalities). I figured for each zone of FPP I DISable, I would be able to go in the Conventional Personalities menu, and it would free up more channels. However, no matter how many FPP zones I disable, the conventional personality is still only going up to 255.


I feel dumb, because the answer is probably very obvious, I'm just missing it here lol

When it's all said and done, I can probably live with about 5 zones being FPP capable, and the rest I can plug in via. the CPS. I figure that would free up a TON of room in the radio for more personalities.

Oh, and I'm using ASTRO25 CPS Version 15.00.00, and the radio has the latest HOST and Firmware as well. The radio is a UHF XTS5000.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

I have an FPP XTS5K and have checked out the same thing, and my understanding is the number of personalities is limited to 255, period. WAH! Since the personalities can be assigned to more than one channel under normal programming circumstances, MotherMoto considers that adequate. The way the FPP portion of the software works however, each channel requires it's own personality to prevent an FPP programming change on a given channel from affecting another channel that would be using the same personality if it were assigned the same way, if you get my drift. WAH x 2! More channels, please!

Wow, that blows ! So with an FPP enabled radio, all you get is 255 period (and that's including IF you wanted to limit the amount of FPP channels from say all 255 to like 16) ?

I thought you could somehow limit the number of FPP'able channels (for example, my radio has ALL of the FPP channels all 255 of them enabled). I thought that if you reduced the number of FPP zones / personalities, that the number of frequencies you can actually ADD in with the CPS would go up ?

So, right now my radio has 255 Conventional Personalities ALL set up for FPP.

I want to reduce that to say, 32 FPP channels (2 zones). NOW, I thought that should free up the radio's memory to have like 800 something channels be able to be entered via. the CPS ? (And the rest, the 32, would still be FPP).

No, that's not correct.

If you make all of the channels in the radio FPP, then you are limited to something like 240 or 255 PERSONALITIES.

The thing that you have to remember is that with Astro25 radios, a conventional personality controls how the channels assigned to that personality behave in the radio, what features each channel has, etc.

Once you have defined the options that you want a group of channels (say 17-32) to have in your conventional personality #17 (assuming personalities 1-16 are FPP), you can go into the zones menu and create a new zone, and assign all the channels in that zone to conventional personality #17.

The thing to remember is that each individual channel in the radio does not require it's own conventional personality unless it is an FPP channel.

The number of personalities is limited to 255, but since each non-FPP personality can be assigned to more than one channel, the possible number of channels you can add in non-FPP channels will depend on how many you burn on FPP vs the limitations that apply to personality and zone assignments in CPS programmed channels. A ferinstance would be that if you burn 60 personalities in 5 zones of FPP, then the number of CPS programmed channels and zones you can create would be limited by the number of channels and zones the firmware and memory will allow. Mathematically speaking, with 195 personalities left, you could create 3120 channels in 195 zones if you needed only one personality per zone, BUT the firmware and memory have other things to do like housekeeping and operating functions, so that 3120/195 number isn't possible.

is that 2048 in theory (I see the post above about over 3000 in theory and makes sense)
so just asking do you have your own radio programmed with 2048 channels?

I don't know anyone with 2000 + channels programmed.

16 Channels per Zone, use one personality per zone.. etc.. you could get a ton of channels. So yes possible but unlikely.
