Looking for opinions/how to guide for modding a K split Spectra 146-174mhz down to J split 136-162 for receive only.
Proper Astro Spectra J splits (which I need) are super HARD to come by yet K splits are all over the bay.
Any how to guides? I have been doing searches and see its something done via hex editing the CPS.. but havent found any more exact info yet
is receive comprimised after modding a K split to J? Is it going to be too poor to even bother.... or no difference if just for receive?
Thanks

Re: modding K split Astro Spectra for J split receive? Opini
After taking care of the software part it all comes down to the front end. Some are very forgiving in the low end, and some are deaf as a post.

Is it possible to use the ? when entering the frequency and call it a day?

A K split Spectra will only go down to about 140 mHz without changing out the VCO and RF frontend. Then you need to reload the firmware for the new range.... this IS the hard part.
