XTL2500 USB programming problems

gday all im having problems trying to read and write a XTL2500 remote radio , i have a legit HKN6163B wich is the usb data/programming cable . the PC has found the radio and also instaled its own usb driver. i plug the radio in via the rear port and the usb , then load the CPS. i try to read the radio with the port set to USB and it gives me this error Open Radio Failed . Error Context: 24, Status c0000344? does anyone know what im doing wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers

hey guys, heres what we put this down to i think the CPS is to old that im tyring to use? the radio wants R12 so i will have to go and buy that now:D

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion just yet. I have had that same problem crop up from time to time
on the computer I normally use to program the radios with. What I seem to be doing is trying to use
a different USB port on the laptop when it happens. It seems that not all the USB ports on my computer
function the same.

You might want to try a different USB port on the computer. Plug the cable into the radio first and
then the other end of your programming cable into the computer. Let the computer put the drivers
to that port. Then try to read the radio again.

I can't remember the sequence, but I have found that 2 of my 4 USB ports will not program or even
make the connection to the radio. Just swapping to a different port and the program works fine.

I too have have this problem with a XTL5000. I have also had to go to the "Device Manager" and "Roll Back Driver" before it will read the radio. I think I am doing the same thing as Jim, and using a different USB port when this happens.

the cps was too old to start with , but that wasnt causing the problem . the problem was the desktop pc the shop was trying to use was to fast and did not like the usb data lead, as soon as they got it on to a laptop half the speed it ran fine and reported that the cps was to old, so they have to upgrade and everything will be fine . cheers all

I am getting the same error code when trying to program my radio. Brand new radio, USB cable, trying to program with a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 running windows XP. I have tried both USB ports, with no luck and I get this error code instantly when I try to read or write the USB port. I am using CPS version 16. Any other ideas that anyone here might have?

You should plug the cable into the radio first, then the computer. After you plug it into the computer, you should hear a double bonk like sound from the computer saying it saw the cable and radio control head. No double bonk sound, no workie.

A laptop computer may have different types of USB connections. On the laptop I use, not all the USB connections work. You may be stuck with an old laptop that doesn't supply the required USB connection.

Another question, when you first installed the CPS, when you tried to connect the XTL radio, did the software try to install the USB driver it required? This should happen only the first time you go to use the USB connection. If the driver install never happened, then your never going to talk with the radio head.

You can try to remove the CPS with the control panel software removal and then installing it again. Try a new boot on the computer before trying to install the CPS again.

Bottom line is you need to get the computer to acknowledge the connection before you can use the CPS.
