Wiring A WPLN4208 Vehicle Charger

Post by henryg »

Hello. On this vehicle charger, does the yellow wire, ignition sense, need to be hooked up? Or can I just hook up the red and black and have it powered all the time? Thanks. Henry

Yes, the manual says it must be hooked up in order for charging to occur. You have the choice of full time power (same place you hooked up the red one, perhaps), or to switched power (i.e. ignition or master power switch). One feature you may not know about is that this model will continue to charge the radio/battery for exactly 30 minutes after you remove power from the yellow wire. This keeps a patrol car/fire truck/ambulance from experiencing a dead battery from perpetual radio/battery charging, however allow the radio/battery to get topped off before shutting the charger down. We love this feature! Good luck.
