XTL-2500 user scan list

Post by havmedic26 »

Hello all,

I recently installed my first astro25 mobile and I am having difficulty (aka: I cant figure it out) setting up a user defined scan list / dynamic scan list. I have 4 xts-2500's (2 uhf, 2 vhf) and 3 XTS-5000's which all have been set up so that I can create and edit the scan list at will. I copied all of the settings that I could think of from the XTS's to the XTL, but no luck. I cant even get the scan menu option to appear on the radio. Come to think of it I am having the same issue with my ht1250, but for the moment I am focusing on the XTL-2500. Could smeone list the settings I need to set in order to configure the radio for user configurable scan list?

Thank you

JT

So far I can't even get the standard scan list to work. But I have another question also. Is there a way to disable the off-hook monitor function? I have not mounted the mic hook yet so it is not grounded. thanks again.

OK, I have figured out the previous two qustions and I will post instructions for others that may be looking for them in the future. Currently I am trying to get the radio to display the ID of the calling unit. If anyone can tell me how to do that I would appreciate it. Otherwise, once I get that figured out I will post instructions for all three once I getall three figured out.

Thanks

From the top:
  • Under Radio Configuration, Display and Menu, the menu items are actually the programmable buttons on the control head. One of them needs to be set for PROG.

Conventional, Conventional Configuration, General tab, uncheck "HUB Defeats PL". This will solve the off-hook monitor condition.

Conventional, Conventional Personality, Scan tab, there must be a scan list selected for that personality. It cannot be left defaulted to "None". Automatic Scan is a personal preference. Leave unchecked if you want to be able to switch scan off, or check if you want the radio to scan whenever it is turned on, and you don't want to be able to toggle it off. If you leave this box unchecked, though, one of your Display and Menu, menu items needs to be SCAN. This will enable you to toggle scan on.

Scan, Scan Configuration, Radio Wide tab, uncheck HUB Suspends Scan until you get that mic clip mounted and grounded. Nuisance Mode Delete needs to be checked if one of your menu items is NUIS.

Scan, Scan List, General tab, set up your priority scanning options. If you want to be able to select priority members on-the-fly, then both priority 1 and 2 should be set to Operator Select along with Non-Priority Members. I would recommend you set your Priority 1 Member for Fixed, and whatever member your dispatch channel is on, and set your Priority 2 Member for Selected Chan. You would then never need to worry about missing a call from dispatch, or missing a word or two on whatever channel you are transmitting on (assuming you are not using Talkback and you haven't checked "Suspend All Scan" in the Scan Configuration, Radio Wide tab). Under the List tab, you can set up the channels you want to scan to start out with, including your dispatch channel. Note that you must first set up your channels in their respective zones.

The SCAN button on your control head will allow you to toggle scan on/off, the NUIS button will allow you to "Nuisance Delete" a channel in your scan list on which you don't want to hear chit-chat and the PROG button will allow you to program your scan list.

To program the scan list, IIRC, press the PROG button. All other functions will disappear except SCAN. Now press the SCAN button to program the SCAN list. Press RCL to toggle through all of the channels you are currently scanning, press DEL to delete the displayed channel. There should be an ADD or EDIT button that will allow you to toggle through all the channels in the radio, and press SEL to add the displayed channel to the scan list. When using RCL to toggle through the scan list, the SEL button will allow you set priority if you have Priority 1 or 2 set for Operator Select. The dot next to the bottom arrow in the Z scan icon tells you what the priority is: no dot=no priority; flashing dot=priority 2; steady dot=priority 1.
I hope this all makes sense, and I also hope other board members can confirm or correct the information contained here.

As far as id display.... if you don't have the option for Enhanced Radio ID in your flash, you don't get it.
