GP2000 EEP ERR

OK, I think I may know the answer to this from previous posts, but I have a GP2000 (VHF, not that it should matter) which worked fine when I got it but then developed the dreaded EEP ERR. Is it an expensive paperweight at this point? Is replacement EPROM available? Does replacement require microsurgical skills?
