No one here in their right mind is going to send you RSS. The legal implications are phenomenal. :o

If you are using a battery in the RIB, try a new one, or use the wall transformer to power it.

IIRC, the comm test doesn't actually test your connection to the radio, it just makes sure RSS can talk to your computer's serial port. Make sure you are using a 486 machine or older, with pure DOS 6.22 or older.

Also check your programming cable connections. Open up the DB-25 on your mobile cable to make sure none of the wires are broken. It wouldn't hurt to check the DB15 and DB9 on the PC cable, either.

Lastly, check the radio's mic connector. Make sure there are no corroded or oxidized pins. Take the control head off the radio and check to make sure the connection to the PCB is good. Also make sure the wires inside the radio are good, and all connectors are properly seated (it wouldn't hurt to slide those connectors off and back on again).

Good Luck!!

well i'm guessing the rib is powerd from the lappy as they is no battery attachment.......... & it won't work on both radios just keeps stating that a file definition file carn't be found insert disk 2.......... so i'm led to beleave its a fault with the software as per the radio with it being the same problem when i'm trying to read the code plug data from either radio...........
Just a thourght if I look on the back of the radio on the pins.......... Pins 15 & 16 have being solderd together I'm guessing thats for the internal speaker to work... could having these pins solderd prevent the radio from being programmed or any sort of data being read? still abit clueless as these radio's are almost new & in mint condition........ & after searching a few difo forums which state they is quite abit of software floating about which is actully hacked could it be that all the software I have is hacked versions?

Just for info the machine i'm using is dos & have no problems at programming other radios on it....
Thanks again!!!

What is the model number on your radio?

How many channels does it seem to have using the control head buttons?

The missing file is a problem in the installation of the RSS on your computer. The file may be there, it is supposed to be in the same directory as the rest of the RSS package. The file(s) may still have the incorrect attributes set like READ ONLY, that will cause the RSS error.

There are many hacked GM300's floating around that will not read with the stock RSS.

You likely have a very old version of the RSS which didn't have the model# of the radios you're trying to read in it's MDF database, thus the error. This is typical of the versions floating around on the internet. BTW, you cannot ask for RSS here, it's one of the cardinal rules...we don't want Motorola giving us grief for pirating RSS. Consider yourself warned.

If the radios have been hacked for channel numbers or out of band, you probably won't read them either.
