Lithium batts for legacy HT/JT series

Been out of the loop for a while. Is there such a thing as a lithium chemistry battery replacement for JT/HT1000's that are plug and play? Maybe something with active circuity in the pack to allow charging with stock moto single and gang chargers? Or are these radios relegated to NiCd and NiMH only?

OEM you will find NiCD or NiMH only

Aftermarket you will find Li-Ion

Current production chargers (NTN1667/NTN8831 & WPLN4111) are tri chemistry, it stands to reason they will charge an aftermarket Li-Ion OK.

Thank you. To your knowledge are the 3rd party Li-Ion batts reliable? Would you recommend staying with Ni type batts?

Nicad will give you the best bang for the buck and performs better at temperature extremes than other chemistries. NiMh gives a little better power ratio and less of a memory factor. LiIon has the best power ratio and no memory effects. Bottom line- NiCad is usually the best all arouund chemistry unless you have a specific need of extended run time or need a light weight option, the NiCads cost less and will provide more charge/discharge cycles. Far as aftermarkets the only really consistent contender is Multiplier, the others get mixed results IMHO.

Multiplier is good, I've run li ion batts from cut rate batteries on the saber/astro for a while now and its great. No problems and I've let it sit charged in my locker for months at a time and taken it out and gotten normal life outta it. Idk about their jedi batteries but their saber batts are great.

I prefer NiMH. In fact they kind of crimp my style as a dealer. They last too long. I have customers that get 3-5 years of service from NiMH with every day use. NiCD is OK except for memory and it's more expensive in the long run to maintain them properly. Li-Ion is good because it's energy dense and no memory but they go south after about 1 1/2-2 years.
