Motorola M120 Receiving but no sound

Post by Redline3222 »

I have a Motorola radius m120 vhf and it's behaving oddly. Sometimes the sound works fine, other times, only the light flashes. If I turn the radio off and back on, it'll work properly again for a few minutes and then acts up again. It has no problems transmitting, only receiving, so I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction to solve this problem? Thanks

Hello:
Make sure the 16 pin adaptor plug is plugged in all the way and not loose conection ect.
Its the black plug on the rear of the radio and it has a jumper that rx audio must go through to get to radios internal speaker.
When rx is recieving with red flashing led wiggle the plug to see if its a good conection ect.
Also make sure mike is off hook hangup clip as this turns on the private line and will only rx when recieving the proper pl or dpl code and will remain silent and flash led if not the corect pl/dpl the radio is set up for.
You can put radio in monitor mode by pressing the monitor button till you see yellow led or simply take mike off hook and that puts radio in CSQ monitor mode also.
Good Luck

Speaking of poor connections, you could also have a dirty volume pot. When it is passing audio, rotate the volume knob. If it sounds scratchy, it needs to be replaced.

I was thinking the same thing about the volume pot, either dirty or going bad, but I also noticed the adapter plug looks like one of the wires might have pulled out a bit, so at least it confirms I'm in the right direction. Thanks guys
