You would need to add an external tone remote adapter to the radio that connects to the accessory connector. There are a number of adapters on the market. Just about any one of them will work.
One point to remember is that you will use the external mic input on pin 8. I would take the RX audio from pin 9. PTT is pin 1 and ground is pin 10. You may have to ground pin 11 which is TX audio low.
There is an external mic audio gain in the software settings of the radio if you end up with low TX audio. Go into the radio wide selection. Then go to the "TX AUDIO CONTROL PER MODE" tab. About the middle of the screen you will see the external mic selection. Factory default is the AGC is checked. Uncheck the box and set the gain to where you need it. I can't tell you just what the correct setting will be, but it can be set as high as a +12. When you uncheck the AGC, you will find this will default to 0.

Jim, thank you i'll give that a shot, and i'm guessing the pin references you make are refering to the 25pin conn? and yes, I beleive i'll be interfacing it to a CPI Tone control panel. It is currently interfaced to a 100watt Spectra.

Re: PM1500 tone control?
Ok, just had a chance to get back on this. The TX audio was real fuzzy/crackly and low no matter what I did with "ext mic audio gain" I ended up going into the "Radio wide >Advance" tab and changing "aux mic" to "aux PTT" and that took care of it. I did not have to grnd pin 11, as when I did it did not help. Seems pretty decent, may need to make some final adj to the rear pots of the CPI MR202 its interfaced to.
Jim, thank you again for your help on this

Forgot to add the comment about that setting. It seems the version of the software your using effects this selection. Some times it's one way and then sometimes it's the other way. So I generally tell people if you have no TX audio to go back to the software and flip the setting like you did.
Have run into this all the time, so it has become second nature over time.

Re: PM1500 tone control?
Ok, so I saved the radio file, unhooked the computer so I could post back my "Mr happy responce" and then walked back the bench to give er a once more check over before I shut it down and call it good and low and behold the display is reading a "remote unit maintenence mode" or whatever and when I shut it off and back on I am greeted with the FL 01/90 code.
WTH? nothing was shorted-out, both the tone controller and the desk-set i'm using to test it all with are known good units. The only thing I may have done was un-hooked the USB programming cable at the computer end first before the mic port end of it, dont know if that would cause it or not. The PM1500 is brand new so maybe it just decided it did'nt want to work 24/7 for the next 15years and took an early dirt knap? Not sure

Load the original file back into the radio. That should get it back working unless the radio got corrupted to the point it can't be read or wrote to.
