CDM2150 ch steering using CPI MR202

Post by cbroseinak »

Am trying to get a CDM2150 to change channels using CPI MR202 rev.C Tone adaptor. I have slaved pin #12 for "channel select 2 (input)" and have the lead from pin#12 running into the CPI housing and tied to the F1/F2 output. The CDM will change channel, but only momentairily, as soon as it appears it switches back to the previous channel. There is no confirmation beep heard either. Only have/need (2)channels.

Need this to be able to swap back and forth between the (2) channels.

Sounds like JP14 in the CPI MR202 needs to be switched to pins 1-2, which makes the F1/F2 output latched instead of momentary. Then, the F1/F2 N.O. should be connected to your CDM's channel 2 select line, and the F1/F2 COM connected to ground.

That sounds right... I think! So normally, the N.O. output of the F1/F2 will be floating, which means channel 2 select will be floating, which makes the radio go to channel 1, I believe. (or the last manually selected channel) When the tone remote adaptor gets the signal to switch to F2, it will trigger the relay, connecting the N.O. output to the COM (ground) effectively grounding the channel 2 select line on the CDM.

Soooo try changing the jumper! :)

Thank you for the info, unfortunately I'm working with the older rev C controller which does not have the JP14 jumper and I dont know if it can be modded somehow to do latched instead of a 100ms momentary.

I have the rev B manual and I can see that there is a JP14 jumper in there.

Are you sure it's missing the jumper entirely? Some of the jumpers are conventional "pin-header" jumpers that you can pick out and move by hand, others are wire jumpers... Is it possible yours just has the wire jumper?

If you can't find it, I'd try calling CPI themselves, see what they have to say!

I'll look closer at it, but I see no indication on the schematic for it and revC and revB schematics are a bit different. The revC manual only mentions the momentary capability of the revC, but i'll give CPI a call , but they might not even talk to me when I mention i'm working with a 17yr old controller....

It's still listed on their website... so I'm guessing they still make it!

Because the old revC uses a 100ms pick off an eprom, I've decided to get one of the new revB panels with the jumper for momentary or latch setting option. No doubt someone with a little more smarts could figure out a way to get the thing to work via a mod to the radio, but i'm not going there with this one 8) Thank you for your help however.
