Motorola SSE5000

Post by 4-crime »

I'm looking for some help. I picked up a Motorola SSE5000 radio. I was able to program it just fine but for some reason the frequencies I programmed into it come in with static. Which is weird because on all my other radios the recieve audio comes in crystal clear on those same frequencies. Any tips as far as changing some setting in the CPS?

SSE5000, you probably have a development radio.
most likely needs a good alignment.

Yes, it was a test radio. That is what I figured. I am going to have it aligned. Thanks for the tip.

consider yourself lucky, the SSE is a neat form factor. Wish they were available.

Yes, it's a neat radio. I was lucky enough to be able to buy one. Nice to add to my collection.

Hey guys, I have something weird happening here. Those of you that read my post about my Motorola SSE5000 a few weeks back know that I was having an issue with getting static and choppy RX audio on freqs that come in crystal clear on other radios such as my xts5000's and some vertex radios. I sent the radio to have it aligned. When I received it back I loaded up a code plug to it and when I disconnected from the computer the audio sounded great. But once I turned the radio off and back on I am getting the same staticky audio. I even tried reloading the code plug again. And again it sounded great but once I turned the radio off it again sounded staticky and choppy. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on here or has anyone had an issue like this with another radio? It was checked out and aligned so I am stumped! Any help you guys could give I would appreciate!

Weird issue, for sure. What's the firmware version? If it's ancient, perhaps upgrade to see if it clears it up?
No trees were harmed in the posting of this message...however an extraordinarily large number of electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Be VERY careful about updating firmware on a developmental SSE. Some of them will not accept the production firmware and will leave you with a brick.

Yes, I am certainly aware of that. I haven't had the FW upgraded in it.
