Hey everyone and thanks for taking the time to read my post. I recently purchased a Motorla CDM 1550 off of eBay and well I just do not know where to begin with the programming. I would for starters to reset the unit back to factory specifications and then go from in adding the frequencies I like. I do have the software and wires for the PC, can anyone lend a hand? PM if you prefer.

There is no way to "restore it to factory specs"

You need the CPS and appropriate programming hardware

If you have the "software and the wires" then you have the help file in the CPS which will provide you with the information you need to program the radio. There is no software manual for that family, only the help file.

As the previous poster said, you can't "reset it to factory spec" because there really is not a factory spec as far as the programming goes. Each model comes out of the plant programmed with a minimal set of functions for each capability. There is just enough programming done to fully test the unit before it is shipped out to a customer.

So why don't you give us some information about what you want to do with the radio, and perhaps we can offer some suggestions. First, are you planning to use it for conventional analog frequencies or are you going to use it in some kind of trunking system?

I've been studying the CDM family of radios for over a year, and then only in analog mode with some signalling capabilities. These are incredibly complex radios with a wide range of capabilities, all programmable from the CPS. I am just beginning to feel comfortable setting up a unit to go in service here in our community.

Let me suggest that you study the CPS and become familiar with the labels used for various things. Ask your questions here using the correct terminology. Otherwise, none of us will be able to give you answers that you can use.

And study the codeplug that is currently in the radio. Save it with a unique file name and don't modify or erase it. Use a different file name for your working codeplug. That way, if you make a mistake on your codeplug, you can go look at the original for guidance or comparison.

Now, if you are working with conventional channels (no trunking, PassPort, or LTR), you can remove those unwanted channels by simply deleting each personality, one at a time. But if you are going to add new channels, you may not want to delete a personality, but modify to what you need instead. If any field is not grayed out, it is editable.

If the CPS installed properly on your computer, there should be a folder full of sample codeplugs, one for each model variant of both the HT and CDM Pro Series radios. You might want to look at them.
