Problems with remote mount kit for Motorola CDM 1550 VHF

Post by djh218 »

Hi new to this board, and I couldn't find anything on this topic after a search. I bought a remote mount kit for my brand new Motorola CDM 1550 VHF mobile radio. I hooked everything up & NOTHING! SO I put the radio back together, and it worked fine. I had an extra CAT cable - radio did not work. I was careful to insert the ribbon cables correctly, and not pinch anything. Still no luck. Is it possible for the control head module to just be a duD? Or is the problem in the other piece that goes on the radio? Thanks for any and all help.

Thanks again

Are you using the proper cable to connect the head to the radio? I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's a 10 pin RJ style, and normal Ethernet cable may not work.

Is this a factory kit or is this a quickmount kit.

What radios do you own?: HT1550's, X9000's, CDM1550's

alex is right, the networking cat5 cables are 8 pin and the kit requires the 10 pin version. if you got the end cap and backing plate on correctly then start checking your cable that you ran. did you check the whole thing before you put it in the vehicle?

Bought it on eBay, and assumed everything was OK. Installed cable (ran it from front to back) and had problems. I am not sure of the difference between a factory and quickmount? Put it in the vehicle and did not work. I am thinking either or both of the heads (each with a printed circuit board) is bad.
Thanks

I have had similar issues with my remote mount kit, after instalation of the mount kit on my vehicle I noticed that something was not right. I noticed when i pressed the microphone button in, my radio would not do anything. I could listen to everything going on, but i could not talk across the radio. I come to find out that inside the remote mount kit, there are two small control head boards (the ribbon connects from them to the mobile faceplate and actual mobile). One or both of these small control boards must have quit working during installation. I called motorola and checked online and couldnt find any place that sold just the control boards without having to buy the whole kit again. If anyone has any for sale or knows where to find them please shoot me a link. Thanks. You may be having the similar issue andd I hope you get it working.

Actually a eight pin Cat 5 cable works fine. I use one for bench testing radios. I believe you loose headset audio at the mic connector.

We do use the proper cable for installs.

Make sure the dot on the ribbon cable matches the dot near the connector.
